Tennis Betting Lines

06/25/2009 - Wimbledon, England (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - U.S. Open runner-up Andy Murray and two-time Wimbledon runner-up Andy Roddick moved on, while former Wimbledon champion Lleyton Hewitt posted a big second-round upset by leveling fifth- seeded Argentine Juan Martin del Potro at The Championships.

A third-seeded Murray, the highest-seeded Brit here in 36 years, blew past talented but underachieving Latvian Ernests Gulbis 6-2, 7-5, 6-3.

The sixth-seeded Roddick handled Russian Igor Kunitsyn 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 on another beautiful day at the storied All England Club. The American star lost to the great Roger Federer in a pair of finals here in 2004 and 2005.

The 26-year-old Roddick's win on Thursday marked the 100th Grand Slam victory of his career.

The former world No. 1 Roddick's third-round opponent will be Austrian lefthander Jurgen Melzer.

Meanwhile, the 2002 titlist Hewitt, unseeded this year, stunned the rising del Potro in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, 7-5.

Del Potro tried to make things interesting by breaking Hewitt while the Aussie was serving for the match. But after the 6-foot-6 Argentine leveled the third set at 5-all, the fiery Hewitt broke right back for a 6-5 edge and then served out the match with his second match point to advance. Hewitt wasted his first match point via double fault.

The former top-ranked Hewitt moved on in 2 hours, 32 minutes with the help of 14 aces and four service breaks. The Aussie also committed only 14 unforced errors, compared to 24 for del Potro, who could manage only one break on a sunny Day 4.

The resurgent Hewitt had dropped 14 straight matches against top-10 competition before Thursday.

The 28-year-old Hewitt has reached at least the quarterfinals here on four occasions and is a two-time major champ.

Eighth-seeded Frenchman Gilles Simon came from behind to beat Brazilian Thiago Alves 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4, while 10th-seeded Chilean Fernando Gonzalez overcame Argentine Leonardo Mayer 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 and No. 12 Russian Nikolay Davydenko drubbed Romanian Victor Crivoi 6-4, 6-4, 6-2. The former Aussie Open runner-up Gonzalez was a French Open semifinalist three weeks ago.

Sixteenth-seeded Spaniard David Ferrer doused Italian Fabio Fognini 6-2, 6-2, 6-3, while 19th-seeded Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka waltzed past Argentine Martin Vassallo Arguello 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

In other action involving seeds, No. 20 Czech Tomas Berdych handled France's Paul-Henri Mathieu 6-2, 6-4, 6-4, a No. 26 Melzer topped last week's grass- court champion in The Netherlands, Benjamin Becker of Germany, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, 7-6 (7-1), and No. 31 Romanian Victor Hanescu humbled Frenchman Nicolas Devilder 6-2, 6-3, 6-1.

Additional second-round wins came for Italian Andreas Seppi, Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero and German Philipp Petzschner. The former world No. 1 Ferrero dismissed 36-year-old Frenchman Fabrice Santoro 6-7 (1-7), 6-3, 6-4, 6-3. Santoro was appearing in his final Wimbledon, as he will retire at the end of this season.

MySportsbook.com: NBA Championship Odds

With the playoffs about two months away, the top two teams in the Western Conference are the clear cut leaders to win the NBA Championship. The Dallas Mavericks have the best record in the NBA (44-9) and have been absolutely scorching since the second week of the season.  What makes the Mavs’ record more impressive is the fact that they dropped their first four games of the season.  Currently they have won 17 out of their last 18 and are MySportsbook.com’s favorite (2-1) to win it all.  Right behind the Mavs are the Pacific leading Phoenix Suns (39-13).  Last season, the Suns lost in the Conference Finals to non-other then the Mavericks four games to two.  Of course the Suns were without center Amare Stoudemire who has is averaging 19.9 PPG and 9.5 RPG since coming back from his knee injury.  Unlike the Mavs, the Suns have struggled a bit lately having lost their last three and four out of their last seven.  Of course the main reason for their three straight loses is due to the absence of two time MVP Steve Nash, who is out with a shoulder injury.  Heads-up, the Mavs have beaten the Suns in both of their meetings this season.

In the Eastern Conference, the Pistons (32-19) are the favorites to win it all at 6-1. The addition of Chris Webber seems to have been a good move for the Pistons.  Since coming over from the 76ers, Webber has averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG and the Pistons are 11-4.  Even though the defending champion Heat are currently on the playoff making cusp, they are the Eastern Conference team that is getting the most action to win it all (9-1).  The fact that Shaquille O’Neal is back in the starting lineup after missing 39 games probably has something to do with this.  No doubt, Shaq makes a difference when in the lineup as their winning six out of their last seven would indicate.
